Who would have thought that a community portal for a small area like Pictou County could have so much competition.  Pictou County Search.com has three competitors in the Pictou County Portal race or at least three that stand out.  As nice as these three are their Alexa rankings are unavailable or non-existant for some reason.

Pictou County Search on the other hand has an Alexa rank of 345,911 out of more than a billion websites.  That’s in the top 10% in the world.  It was my intention to do a comparison here to show how Pictou County Search was doing against these other sites.  However, due to lack of data for the other sites I will just list the ones that I feel are the top five Pictou County Portals:

1. Pictou County Search.com – The number one community portal for Pictou County.  See the Alexa rank for Pictou County Search.
2. Pictou County.com – Local community portal affiliated with CKEC radio.
3. Pictou County Connects – Looks nice but not very user friendly in my experience.
4. Pictou County.ca – This site isn’t even up and running yet.  I wonder if they ever checked to see what they were up against?  It seems strange to me to start another community portal when you have so much competition.  O well some times it’s all about the quality of the competition as opposed to the quantity.  A good product will normally rise to the top.
